The smell gave them away. The stench of rotting fruit and sweet lilac. Most people wouldn’t have thought anything of it.
After all it was the subway, and subways never smell like spring flowers. They smell like an uncleaned bathroom and soot and the sweaty press of unwashed bodies.
But I recognized the smell and even though I could not see them, I knew they were coming. Orcs. Hundreds of them. And they were angry.
